Diamonds in Candles? Oui, oui!

It’s hard to be innovative when it comes to candles. It seems the most you can do is play with presentation, maybe come up with some interesting scents. Well, Popup Paris took it a step further and did the unthinkable. For every 50th candle they make, they include a diamond inside for you to find. If that doesn’t brighten up your day then we don’t know what will. How did this idea come about?

“Two years ago, I got the idea of using diamonds without jewelry, of combining them instead with items used in every day life,” Victor Van de Rosieren, one of the Popup Paris founders, says. “I didn’t want to distort the precious stone and insert it in consumable materials and my friend Gaulthier Malard, had the idea of incorporating the diamond into candles.”

Van de Rosieren’s father was as diamond dealer, so his love of diamonds came naturally. Malard was always passionate about design, and in 2010 they embarked on the journey that’s been Popup Paris. By 2011, Samuel Guez, a young financier, joined their entrepreneurial adventure. Eventually, Malard dropped out leaving Van de Rosieren and Guez to take the lead.

Aside from the obvious shiny reasons, Popup candles are unique in that they’re handmade with high quality fragrances from Grasse, the perfume capital of the world. Their unique scents range from Bamboo, Smoking Fire, and Wild Fig, to Grenadine and Rice Powder. Their packaging is not only unique, but also eco-friendly.

Popup Paris is the perfect balance of modernity and authenticity. It’s like entering a luxury, French lottery. Even if you don’t get the diamond, you’ve got yourself a great looking, even greater smelling candle.
