Impressed yet?

It’s hard not to think of water lilies and gorgeous, colorful gardens when you think of Oscar-Claude Monet. Often called the father of Impressionism, even the not-so-art-savvy would most likely recognize a painting by him. But would they know where this unique French artist drew most of his inspiration for his breathtaking landscapes?

As it happens, Monet drew inspiration from one of the dreamiest places on earth. According to us, anyway. Oui, he drew his inspiration from none other than our beloved Normandy. One of his most famous paintings in 1872 titled Impression, soleil levant (Impression, sunrise) took place in Le Havre. He was also fond of painting the cliffs of Etretat as well as the beach and port in Fécamp. As far as his gardens go, Monet had a house in Giverny with the most impressive gardens you could imagine.

If you’re really lucky, you don’t even have to imagine. The gardens are now one of Normandy’s major tourist sites visited for their historic importance in the art world and of course, their natural beauty. Same goes for any of Monet’s other places of inspiration. We can guarantee that a trip to Normandy will never disappoint. To think that you can walk in the footsteps of a great artist and admire the same timeless landscapes he once admired is a dream come true, ne c’est pas?
