Launched in 2014 by Delphine Lopez, Maradji is a young brand, but a deeply inspired one. A world traveler, Lopez embeds the spirit of her favorite locales into the DNA of the brand. Spain, India, Madagascar and more come to life through her sophisticated, timeless designs. Exuberant and chic, Maradji creations transport you to Indian bazaars and beyond. Today, we’re talking with Lopez about how she began Maradji, where she finds inspiration, and what’s next for the brand.

 

OuiPlease: What is your background? When did you start Maradji?

Delphine Lopez: I studied fashion design in Barcelona from 2005 to 2008 at the Istituto Europeo di Design. Once I graduated, I went to India to do my first internship and it was a great experience – I got really inspired by the country. Since then, I’ve worked in several places and decided to create my own brand in 2014. To this day, my brand reflects my love of India and all of its beauty.

OP: Where do you find your inspiration?

DL: I mainly find my inspiration in India, of course, but my creations always have a mix of other things as well. I like to say that Maradji is India and France distilled down into an accessory. Finding inspiration is as easy as keeping my eyes open wherever I am.

OP: What are your favorite places in Paris?

DL: I really like my neighborhood, the 11ème, which has a lot of restaurants and bars. Recently, they opened l’Atelier des Lumières on my street, the first digital museum with an exhibition of Klimt. It’s really beautiful – a must-see for the next time you are in Paris!

OP: How would you define classic, French style?

DL: French style according to me is simple but elegant, a tasteful combination of luxury details and natural materials.

OP: What’s in the future for Maradji?

DL: I plan to design a home furniture collection at some point in the future, and since I am pregnant, why not a range for kids, too?
