Best in Show – Chanel’s Haute Couture Runway Kick-Off
While those in the coveted front-row seats may be used the clip-clopping sound of a fashion model’s heels, Chanel kicked off its Paris haute couture show with Charlotte Casiraghi, granddaughter of Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco, trotting down the runway on her Spanish Bay horse, Kukus.
Wearing a black sequined collarless jacket and flared lapis-blue trousers, the experienced equestrian and Chanel brand ambassador rode down the catwalk to debut Channel’s Spring/Summer 2022 collection.
This year’s collection was designed by Virginie Viard, who took over as Chanel’s creative director after the death of Karl Lagerfiend in 1991. Viard’s designs aligned
the strong aesthetics of the horse and those of haute couture as the dramatic beauty of horse and rider were exhibited in front of high-profile guests such as US Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, actress Margo Robbie, and rapper Pharrell Williams.
Although some, including various animal rights organizations, have criticized Chanel’s decision to include a horse, many calling the move risky and dangerous – the debut has definitely helped promote Chanel’s new collections as the public is talking.
Whether you agree or not, fashion is meant to be exciting. The original founder of Chanel, Gabrielle Chanel made a bold and lasting impression on women’s fashion of the 20th century. The dramatic runway display honored its founder with its daring debut. Chanel won the race and best-in-show.
