PACKING SECRETS FOR YOUR SUMMER VACATION

Ok, I have a confession. I am obsessed with traveling! I love seeing new places, hearing foreign languages, and immersing myself in different cultures. I am just dying to go on a trip because I haven’t been on a plane since the summer of 2019! Thanks a lot, Covid-19 🙁 

One of the most important parts of traveling is packing the right things for your trip. It’s always the worst when you’re digging around in your suitcase after arriving to your destination and you realize you’ve forgotten something you need! I hate that feeling!

 

 

In order to avoid a fiasco, follow the steps below. I promise your trip will be smooth sailing! You’ll have a neatly packed suitcase filled with all the items that you can’t vacation without. So let’s get right to it!

 

PHASE 1: Pre-Packing 

The first thing you want to do is make a packing list! And, as annoying as this sounds, you’re going to want to make this list a little bit in advance, at least 3-4 days before your flight departs, especially if it’s a longer trip. Why? Because a list will help you realize if you need to go shop for anything, what exactly you want to take with you, and it will help you keep track of what you’ve packed once you get to that stage.

 

 

What’s so fun is that you can look on Pinterest to find a list that matches your vacation! That way, you can get some inspo on what to pack and be extra sure not to forget to add anything to your own list. 

While you’re making your list, take a quick look at what the weather will be like at your destination. Keep the weather in mind while you decide which items are essential for your trip. Make sure to list every important item you can think of, that way you are sure to remember to pack everything you need!

 

For me personally, packing lists are a MUST. I just feel so unorganized without one! 

 

PHASE 2: Prepare Your Items

In this phase, you will decide what you want to take. Pick the must-go pieces and lay everything you’ve picked out on your bed so you can really visualize your outfit choices.

Make sure you’ve selected enough outfits to last you the whole trip, and be sure to include lots of versatile pieces. The best thing about versatility is that you can wear those types of pieces multiple times with multiple different outfits, leading you to pack smarter and lighter!

 

 

Don’t forget to pick out some accessories! Be sure to go for versatility again here. Bring one or two purses that will match with any outfit you might wear. The same goes for shoes since both shoes and bags take up the most amount of space.

PHASE 3: Start Packing

Now, it’s time for the most tedious step… actually packing! I don’t know about you, but I dread packing. I’m too much of a perfectionist so I always spend hours and hours folding and re-folding and perfectly placing it all into my suitcase. It’s almost like doing a puzzle or playing a game of Tetris!

 

 

I like to fold my clothes neatly and tightly, placing smaller items like socks in the little nooks and crannies. If you’re into it, you could even use Marie Kondo’s folding technique to save space! Another thing I love is using packing pouches. This way I can separate my items by category and keep everything super neat and tidy!

 

 

Here’s another helpful tip: put the heaviest items at the bottom of your suitcase. It helps to keep the rest of the things you’ve packed intact! Also, if you’re leaving the country, make sure to pack an adapter. Buy a universal one so that you can use it anywhere you go!
