From Chanel to Louis Vuitton, Paris Fashion Week is the crowning moment of Fashion Month. Designers from the most prestigious fashion houses showcase their creations around the globe, setting the sartorial forecast for the upcoming season. Fashionistas from far and wide gather to attend these invite-only shows, and in the process, treat us to a parade of personal style. To us, editors, bloggers, socialites and the like are the real style MVPs of fashion week. While the looks on the runway are stunning examples of craftsmanship and creativity, we turn to the bold fashionistas on the frontline to garner our style inspiration!

Trend 1: Monochrome
One uber-chic look that can be hard to pull off is monochrome. Whether you’re wearing camel, gray, blue or pink, the trick to dressing in one color is to play with shades. Here, Miroslava Duma is wearing four different shades of camel, to keep her outfit dynamic and multidimensional. Another pro-tip? Vary the texture. Instead of wearing all wool, mix in cashmere, cotton or linen, too.

Trend 2: White
Remember that age-old adage, no white after Labor Day? Forget it! All-white is a must have for summer, winter and all months in between. Make your all-white ensemble more interesting – and less saccharine – by mixing in rich leather details and unexpected pops of shine.

Trend 3: Mix-and-match
Up the French-factor in your ensemble by playing with multiple styles at once. Experiment with wearing an ultra-feminine, lace dress with clunky, masculine booties. Not so sure about the combination? Try wearing the same color throughout – black is our go-to – and you’ll immediately feel more composed.

Trend 4: Proportion
Perfect proportions are in many ways the heart of French style. Every outfit you put together is all about balance – a wide leg pant with a tight top, or a voluminous dress with sky-high strappy sandals. Good proportions are dependent on good tailoring. In the French book of style, it’s better to have fewer items of high quality that fit your body well, than a bunch of items that you rarely touch and are ill-fitting.

Trend 5: Make a Statement
Don’t get us wrong, we could wear all black every day, but a go-to statement piece is a must-have. A statement piece is something you can throw on over any outfit to make it pop. Color isn’t the only thing that determines a statement piece, you could also choose an interesting shape or an eye-catching texture. Feeling bold? Maybe your statement piece is a daring combination of color, shape and texture!
